Meet Narelle – Naturopath and Founder of Food For Health!

Posted on May 27, 2016

Over the years we have had the pleasure of working alongside some truly passionate people, who were inspired to create delicious products for the many FODMAP Friendly eaters worldwide.

We decided to sit down one on one with each of our Certified manufacturers, and allow you to learn a little more about the people behind the brands you love!

AAA - Narelle Shot 2

Meet Narelle, founder of Food for Health.

Tell us about the people behind Food for Health. Where did it all begin?

Food for Health I was founded by Narelle Plapp in 2005. Narelle is a naturopath and while she was practicing she created 2 functional muesli’s for her patients to use as a part of their treatment plan. The results they got were amazing so she decided to commercialize the products and Food for health was born.

Why did Food for Health decide to create FODMAP friendly line of products?

Given Narelle’s background, education around food allergies and eating, healthy food is something she is passionate about. Coeliac disease and Fructose malabsorption can commonly be diagnosed together and for suffers there was a lack of products for them to purchase. Food for Health launched the very first gluten free fructose free muesli bar in 2009. Followed by our delicious fruit free clusters, which are now the number 1 selling cereal in the Coles health food category. In total we have 8 FODMAP Friendly approved products.

What are some of the best reasons to choose Food for Health products?

We use the highest quality, ingredients. We do not use any glucose in any of our bars, we only use sulphur free fruit, we are mindful of keeping our calories low and our products provide healthy solutions for people with allergy concerns.

What sort of feedback have you received about the entire range and what do the low FODMAP community have to say about the FODMAP Friendly lines?

Sales data proves that the FODMAP Friendly community both need and enjoy our products. There is a huge lack of selection for them. At Food for Health all products we create have FODMAP Friendly at the top of our minds. We are passionate about creating healthy foods to make life that little bit easier for people in the FODMAP Friendly community.

Do you have further plans to expand the FODMAP friendly range given its popularity?

Yes we do have plans, in fact we are rolling out our new GOURMET PROTEIN MUESLI into Coles next month. This is our newest FODMAP Friendly product and we are very excited about the launch. This muesli is high in teff and other rich in protein grains, it has a beautiful vanilla & blueberry flavour.

Where do you see Food for Health progressing as a brand in the future? What sort of market has the FODMAP Friendly message opened up for the brand?

Food for Health had launched fructose free products before the FODMAP Friendly logo was created, however the Certified logo on pack and the awareness FODMAP Friendly creates in the community is an invaluable tool to grow both the educational component and ease of consumers. People can trust products that carry the Certification logo as they have been through rigorous testing to gain the accreditation.

Food for Health are very proud to have the very first gluten free fructose free muesli bar offered on Virgin Airlines. We have been supplying Virgin with our fruit free bar for over 12 months and the amount of people that we get amazing feedback from is overwhelming, It is also a great platform to educate people on a diet low in FODMAPS.

As a brand Food for Health continues to grow domestically and also expand into overseas markets.  We are sending our first shipment of FODMAP Friendly products to America next month which is very exciting. We also supply Costco, Coles and Woolworths with FODMAP Friendly products.
