The Recipe Maker

In a world-first, FODMAP Friendly has developed a new Recipe Maker tool that allows app users to create their own low FODMAP recipes. A handy recipe analyser function calculates FODMAP stacking within a FODMAP group for you and informs you if your recipe exceeds FODMAP limits.

Make a recipe

Let’s make a smoothie recipe:

  • Fom the Recipe Maker homepage, select ‘make a recipe’. Here you can enter the name and number of serves. Then click next.

  • Search for ingredients by typing in the search bar or browse through categories.
  • Select an ingredient by clicking on it. A green tick will appear that shows that ingredient has been added to your recipe.
  • You can continue to add ingredients by clicking ‘X’ on the search bar and typing a new ingredient, or by browsing and clicking on ingredients.
  • Once all your ingredients are selected you can click next.
  • Alternatively, you can click next after each ingredient added, and then click ‘+ ingredients’ to go back.

  • Now you have entered the ‘edit quantity page’ where you can adjust the amounts of each ingredient as needed for your recipe.
  • To adjust the unit of measure (e.g. grams, ounces, cups, etc), click on the green drop-down
  • To adjust the number, click inside the number box to enter the number or fraction required.
  • Once all quantities are entered, click ‘next’

This will take you to the recipe analysis page, here your recipe will be tested if it passes as low FODMAP

  • If any FODMAP category is highlighted in red, it indicates that one or more ingredients are high FODMAP.
  • Click the dropdown menu to view the high FODMAP ingredient(s).
  • The addition of strawberries has caused the recipe to exceed the cut off for safe excess fructose consumption
  • You have the option to lower the amount of the high FODMAP ingredient using the + or – signs OR swap the high FODMAP ingredient(s) for a low FODMAP alternative to make your recipe low FODMAP.
  • Here we swapped strawberries for kiwi, the recipe is now low FODMAP
  • If you make a mistake or if you would rather swap it to a different ingredient, you can always press the undo button to reverse the swap you have just made.

Once you’re satisfied with your ingredients and your recipe meets the low FODMAP criteria click next.

  • Please note, you can still save a Recipe even if it is high FODMAP, this allows those who are only sensitive to particular FODMAPS to enjoy the FODMAPS they can consume.
  • Now it is time to save your recipe! Select the category that your recipe fits into, add your recipe method and select an image of your dish.
  • Finally click ‘Save’, you will be redirected to the recipe maker page. Click ‘My Saved Recipes’ to view your finalised recipe.

The Recipe Maker takes away the stress of preparing meals for FODMAP sensitive individuals.

My Saved Recipes

My Saved Recipes is a collection of recipes that you have personally created and saved within the app for easy access and future use. You can edit or delete Saved Recipes.
Inside the recipe maker, select ‘my saved recipes’ on the right-hand side of the screen. Here you can see all recipes you have made inside the recipe maker.
Narrow down the recipe options by clicking the filter button at the top right to refine your search by the meal type or cuisine that you are after. Then simply scroll to browse OR use the search bar to search for specific recipes.

FODMAP Friendly Recipes and eBooks

Clicking on this tab will give you access to hundreds of FODMAP Friendly certified recipes and eBooks such as ‘Vegetarian and Vegan FODMAP Friendly’. This function is the same as the one on the home screen when you open the app, we have included it within the ‘Recipe Maker’ for easy access.
