The elimination phase (phase 1) should not be permanent. The low FODMAP diet is a diagnostic tool and is not nutritionally complete long term. Prolonged restriction may increase risk of nutrient deficiencies and negatively impact gut microbiota. The goal is to identify your triggers and reintroduce tolerated foods. Then, in phase 3, under the guidance of a dietitian you can find how to follow a lifelong personalized plan to manage your triggers whilst still achieving nutritional adequacy.
