We Put The Popular Pick To The Test, Hemp Seeds Are Low FODMAP!

Hemp seeds have been receiving a lot of attention lately, now we’ve added another reason to the ever-growing list of benefits!

Hemp seeds/hearts are low FODMAP. Enjoy at the safe serving size.

What are hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds, also known as hemp hearts, are the seeds of Cannabis sativa, the hemp plant. They’re like a nut with a crisp shell and a soft inside. You can mostly find them for retail sale in health food stores, in the form already released from the shell.

Don’t be concerned about getting high with these guys, though! They grow on a variety of cannabis plant that does not have psychoactive properties. That’s why they’ve been given the green light for human consumption in Australia. If you haven’t yet seen hemp seeds/hearts yet on menus in cafes and restaurants here in Oz, here’s a heads up that you probably will soon!

What are the benefits of consuming hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds are great for many reasons, and we’ve just added another one to the list; they’re high in omega-3, 6 & 9 fatty acids, high in plant-based protein, and they’re eco-friendly. Now we can declare them low FODMAP, too! This means they’re an appropriate snack option at the serving size we’ve tested, and can really easily be added to many cafe & restaurant meals, and to commercially available products like breads & cereals, muesli bars, nondairy milk, and lots more. Did we mention there’s a FODMAP Friendly certified hemp product on the way soon? Stay tuned here.
