However, for FODMAPPERs alike, these kinds of celebrations can be fraught with difficulty, if attending BBQs, parties, or any other social event where there are non-FODMAP Friendly snacks aplenty!

Luckily, we are here to give you four pieces of advise to follow, which will help you enjoy the holiday without any bumps in the road!

1. Relax! Have a sleep in, enjoy the celebration and try to make this a day of low stress. Stress plays an important role in IBS type symptom management, so allow yourself to relax and unwind as much as you can.

2. Plan ahead – if you are attending an Australia Day BBQ or party, try to map out your food intake for the day, whether this be by eating at home before the event, or taking something you are certain is FODMAP Friendly to the event.

3. Ask the host. If you are attending a function and are feeling anxious about the food choices on offer, politely inquire about the types of foods and drink that will be on offer. Not only will this set your mind at ease, but it will help you determine if you should bring your own FODMAP Friendly dish along too!

4. Pace yourself! Like most social events, there will inevitably be a large amount of delicious delicacies at your pick. Whilst enjoying yourself is important, keep your individual FODMAP thresholds in mind, and don’t push your food choices further than you need to – if you are wary of the repercussions!
