Posted on December 07, 2019

Been asked to “bring a plate” to a Christmas gathering and now struggling to come up with a dish that ticks all the boxes – delicious, presentable, transportable AND low FODMAP!? Whether you’re wanting to impress or simply feed the troops, it’s a big ask.

We hear you, and we know it can be a stressful time of the year (with or without dietary requirements). So we’ve put together a list of some easy to prepare go-to’s for you this silly season…

Brunch

Meeting up with one side of the family early on Christmas day? Bring along one of the following…

  • Zucchini & Ricotta Fritters
Our recipe for low FODMAP fritters will certainly do the job! Just be aware, you may want to do a few batches as they’ll be popular
  • Granola Breakfast Bars
Bake some of these cookies to leave for Santa and have some left over for Christmas morning (if he leaves you any!)

Entree

  • Pumpkin Arancini
These will go down a treat, whether other guests are following the Low FODMAP Diet or not!
  • Truffle Devilled Eggs
    Quick and easy finger food
  • Hommus
Add this classic dip to any Christmas Day platter
  • Prawns
An Aussie classic! Naturally low FODMAP, simply dress your prawns with some lemon and enjoy

Salads, Mains and Sides

  • Roast Veg Salad
Have a look at this lovely dish to share with your main meal from FODMAP Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Roast Chicken / Meat
While meat itself is almost always considered low FODMAP, stuffings, seasonings and marinades can trip people up. If you’re after a low FODMAP meat to bring along to Christmas day, try seasoning with Corona’s FODMAP Friendly certified meat rub – find more info here.
  • Roast Potatoes
Season your roast veg with your favourite herbs and spices (we love rosemary, parsley and thyme) – these are all low FODMAP. If you’re after a garlic hit, sprinkle a few teaspoons of FreeFOD’s garlic replacer – find more info here.selective focus photography of glazed nuts inside white ceramic saucer

Dessert

  • Gingerbread Cookies
Get those holiday themed cookie cutters out and get creative with this recipe from FODMAP Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Brownies
Family full of chocolate lovers? Give them what they want with our delicious sweet potatoa brownie recipe!
  • Pavlova
No time for baking? Pick up some plain meringue nests from your local supermarket (these should be low FODMAP by default based on traditional ingredients), top with whipped lactose free cream and a selection of low FODMAP fruits (berries and kiwi are our favourites)
